The Overland Information

Travel aboard the train in comfortable reclining seats, with access to Cafe carriage and generous luggage allowance. Travel between Adelaide and Melbourne in comfort with two levels of service to suit any budget.

Red Service

Ideal for travellers looking for an economy option that offers an exceptional level of comfort and freedom to move around.

Red Service features include:

  • Comfortable reclining seats offering greater personal space. Two seats on either side of the aisle, with 60 seats per carriage.
  • 49cm pitch between seats
  • Access to Cafe Carriage, where meals are available for purchase
  • Snacks for purchase from trolley service or Cafe Carriage
  • Free 'Platform' magazine
  • Luggage allowance of 40kg per person, two items not exceeding 20kg each. 

 

Red Premium Service

Our Red Premium Service offers extra space and more comfort, with reclining seats that offer even more leg room than business class airline seats. Two abreast to one side and a single seat across the aisle, the seats swivel to face each other if you want to socialise with your travelling companions.

Red Premium Service features include:

  • Comfortable reclining seats offering greater personal space on your train journey. Two seats on one side of the aisle, one seat on the other side, with 36 seats per carriage
  • 67cm pitch between seats
  • Complimentary breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea
  • Complimentary teas, coffee and soft drinks
  • Free 'Platform' magazine
  • Luggage allowance of 50kg per person - three items, two of 20kg and one at 10kg. 

The Overland Cafe 828: Stroll to the licensed Cafe Carriage for meals or drinks including espresso coffee and if you don't want to leave your seat, enjoy an a la carte meal, snack or drink from our catering trolley.

Motorail Service: Please note that on the Overland the Motorail service is not available.

Luggage: Red Service allows two items not exceeding 20kg each and not exceeding 180 linear centimetres. Red Premium Service allows for 50kg of luggage per person. Two items not exceeding 20kg each, one item not exceeding 10kg. Due to space constraints, guests are advised to take onboard only hand luggage containing the requirements for their rail journey. Checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey.
