Payment & Ticketing

Regular German Rail Pass Conditions:

  • Residents of Europe, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and the Russian Federation are not eligible to purchase or use a German Rail Pass
  • Passes must be validated within 11 months of issuing date by a railway official in Germany
  • Passes must be validated prior to boarding the first train/ first use of travel bonus.
  • All parties must be present when validating the pass.
  • Free Child Offer: Two children aged 6-11 years inclusive travels free for each paying adult. The free child offer must be requested at the time of booking the adult pass. Additional children aged 6-11 years purchase a Youth fare. Children under 4 years travel free if not occupying a seat / bed. Seat reservation fees still apply.
  • Seat reservation fees are an additional charge and not inclusive in the cost of the pass.
  • What is the 7pm rule?
    - If your train departs before 19.00 hrs (7 pm), you need to use two travel days
    - If you are travelling on a direct night train (with no connections or layovers) that departs after 19.00 hrs (7 pm) and arrives after 04.00 hrs (4 am), you only need to use one day (the day of arrival). Please note: your pass must be valid on the day of departure and arrival.

We also recommend that you take out suitable travel insurance to cover (as a minimum) the costs incurred if you cancel your trip.

Cancellation & Amendments


  • A $20 per pass fee applies for amendments to unused passes returned within one year of issuing date.
  • Passes must be presented for refund unused and not validated.
  • A fee of $30 per person, per pass applies to totally unused passes returned within one year of issuing date.
  • No partial refunds.
  • German Rail Passes cannot be reissued if lost or stolen.
